“The Violet Forest” on Spokane Public Radio

27 Aug ’20

All week, I’ve been selecting poems for “The Poetry Moment” on Spokane Public Radio station, KPBX 91.1. As part of that, they ask for me to share one of my own poems, so here is something written earlier in the year. It’s one of my new Clare poems— “The Violet Forest.”  There is a new batch of these poems that are taking a different direction on this long undone and unsolvable project of trying to write a biography of sorts on John Clare. He was a second-generation Romantic poet, contemporary of Byron, Keats, and Shelley.

This is a picture of me standing there in front of Clare’s cottage. You can read about my walk from London to Helpston here.
