Tot ziens, Amsterdam!

20 Dec ’14

On our way to Paris, but here are six things I learned during our too brief stay.

    1. 1. Cheese makes most paintings better and is always a suitable topic.
    1. 2. Turmeric in oatmeal is delicious.
    1. 3. It is incredibly stupid to save your rijsttafel until your last night in Amsterdam as you will want to eat it again and won’t be able to.
    1. 4. Bryan Adams still makes a killing in royalties.
    1. 5. Dutch men are incredibly hot. There must be a strong correlation with bicycling, pickled herring, and all this sex appeal.
    1. 6. The Dutch were incredibly kind and sweet, just like their apple cake. Just pure delight.
On our last day, we got to have lunch with play-miester Bas de Baar. New friends!

This bakery was the best we went to, perhaps on the entire trip.

A cake called "Orientpunt". It's a hazelnut mousse over a sable base and the "crust" is made of hollow chocolate filled with more mousse, topped with praline.

The best oatmeal I have ever had. I went two days in a row...it has turmeric in it. Lavinia Good Food: worth the visit.

A terrible picture, but it's our rijsttafels or Indonesian "Car Wash" meal at Blauw. We did manage to eat it all, but it was a long, slow walk home.
