Today was cold. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder. It is hard to be motivated for a long walk.
Seattle Stairway Walk 7, through the heart of University of Washington campus, is just over two miles and has plenty of places to tuck into to warm up. We stopped to peek quietly at the dignified Reading Room of the Suzzallo Library and get warm, but you could just as easily stop for beer in the cozy basement of the College Inn Pub, slurp noodles in the steamy Samurai Noodles, or maybe get lucky and score a seat by the fire in the HUB.
This is a walk I’ll do again in the spring when the cherry blossoms are blooming in the Quad and the Drumheller fountain is on. It would also be nice to combine it with the Henry’s free first Thursday or the University Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Of course, one could make several nice long walks, including adding the nearby Ravenna walk from the book.
