Last week the Seattle Times ran a short notice that there were baby cloud leopards at the Pt. Defiance Zoo. It had been years since I had gone there, but this small zoo has a very sweet spot in my heart. I’ve used it many times as a great “second” date for fellows who I thought would make suitable urban explorers and had potential. Of course, it may be a small bit of irony that I’d never actually taken my husband.
So sure, went to the baby cloud leopards but had a fine time in the sunny weather looking at everything else.
Tips: Everyone knows that having a picnic at the zoo is most excellent. We stopped on the way at the Tacoma Food Co-Op on a trendy stretch of Sixth Avenue. They didn’t have much for prepared sandwiches on Saturday morning but did have some tasty local cheese and apples that made a first-rate picnic. Of course, if you want to eat a bit further from the hoards of children, the park has many fine beaches and some nice theme gardens in it.
We also very much enjoyed the beautiful open space at Bluebeard Coffee Roasters, but they were also low on snacks. Maybe there’s a reason everyone we saw out walking around in Tacoma was so skinny gorgeous. Cranked on coffee and not a bite to eat! (Wink).
