Need to get away but keep it quick? Need an ideal place overnight with six 5-year olds with the short attention spans? Just want to relive (or create) some boy scout memories. Cabins that sleep six, great fire pits and camp ovens, a climbing wall, a play field, and well as some nice short nature trails, we’d recommend Camp Long.
At seven miles from our house, I’d hesitate to call it a “bike tour” though we did take what we needed on our bicycles and there was a very long hill to get there. While we booked it to spend some “camping” time with our pals with small children, it ended up that we had two cabins to ourselves. The truth is, despite asking everyone we knew to join us, I don’t think anyone really took us seriously or thought that it was worth the hassle to “camp” when they could be in their own home in fifteen minutes. We did have a few pals join us for a delightful campfire, which Vic and I enjoyed watching late in the evening with the orange glow of the city in the sky despite being surrounded by a “forest”.
In the morning, we “hiked” to Bakery Nouveau for Seattle’s best croissants, had a stroll through the park before checking out. We were home in about thirty minutes. We’re going to do this again. Absolutely.
Camp Long: A very fun and delightful overnight right in the middle Seattle (if you consider West Seattle part of Seattle).
