Red in the Garden

7 Jun ’09

Red Oriental Poppy

Like a shinny button, these poppies draw the eye to what is otherwise a gauzy, billowy dress of a garden.

I couldn’t find seeds or plants for the Flander’s Poppies I had last year, which were smaller, disk-shapped poppies just like the one’s the VFW pass out, but I’d nearly forgotten about these red Oriental’s we put in last year as they never bloomed. Though short-lived, they’re enormous cups of striking color and in our early summer completely pleasing. I much prefer these to the more common salmon colored ones you see everywhere.
