The End of Snowmageddon

31 Dec ’08

Paper Snowflakes are All That's Left

Fifteen days ago, I snapped some pictures of a decent snowfall. Little did I know that it would only be the beginning to a two week decent into madness, futility and frustration.

We’re back from a unexpected car-free trip to Canada and still have a decent pile of shoveled snow around the sidewalk, though no sign other than damaged plants to mark the two weeks we’ve just been through: Christmas parties ruined, concerts canceled, and a strange, unfulfilled urge to shop, EEK!

With the snow lasting as long as it did, it was difficult to remain happy about the snow days, which usually include blowing off work, skiing to pubs and your pals, sledding with the kids. Instead, I had plenty of work and time on the phone to do it.

It seems like 2008 will go down in a Top 5 Snow Event. And while I hope we don’t have another episode like this one soon, I can say that I wouldn’t mind a few reminders for the next normal day-and-be-gone snowfall:

  • Stop whatever you are doing and bake some bread or a cake
  • Get outside and find a sled or piece of cardboard to be a sled
  • Check the bird feeders
  • Remember, that you still want to fire the mayor
