Smashing! The Time of the Short Pants

17 Nov ’08

A Natty Outfit

My mother recently sent another batch of pictures they’re cleaning out of storage.

I thought this one was particularly smashing! Bow tie, knee-high socks, and a corduroy vest, it’s festive and smart.

How much fun is it to dress your kid! I wonder if I liked wearing this. I can’t recall. It looks like I’m probably three, so listenthis is what the squares were wearing in 1973 and I’m down with that.

It crossed my mind that this might be a not-so-suitable, but respectable type of outfit to wear to the turkey slaughter next week, an event I am not particularly looking forward to. Poor turkeys! Torn assunder from this pleasant world by my bloody hand! Even if I were to wear a bow tie, I am expecting nothing but carnage.

Adorable!

Also, I’m pretty sure Christopher Kimball slaughters turkeys, as he lives in the boonies and espouses a small-town-farmy life, and I imagine him wearing his bow tie everywhere!
