New Lens in Victoria, BC

29 Dec ’08

So much for enjoying our staycation! After being homebound in a foot of snow for what felt like weeks, Vic and I were quite happy to be journeying North on the Victoria Clipper.

While I’ve wanted to do some camping and hiking on Vancouver Island, Victoria’s reputation as an pale substitute for Ye Olde England and a favored destination for traveling neophytes on package holidays had, unfortunately, biased me against traveling here. I’ve been finding Victoria, at least in the off-season, a delightful and relaxing weekend trip. I don’t recall seeing one chip house, no stranger then normal use of British spelling, and while we did have some tea, it wasn’t unnaturally quaint.

In addition to the good food and pleasant walks we’ve been having, I’m also enjoying some new visual tools that both Good and Bad Santa brought me: a new lensbaby for the Nikon and a very small video camera. I hope that both spur new creative activity.
