In Which We Welcome Nana and Ori

9 Jul ’08

Nana and Ori waiting to start their new life together

No small goldfish bone of contention, my desire to have fish again in the garden was not getting the go-ahead by Victor. Of course, my last koi pot became a sashimi bar for the raccoons before the very last fish met his doom frozen solid during an unusually bitter winter. Vic’s knowledge of these events may have fueled his antipathy.

No matter, over the last several months I found a beautiful pot, got the pump, filled it with water, added some water plants and waited. And waited.

Taking the good advice given by recent newlyweds S&P, we decided to stay in our relaxing home for a few extra days before rushing out just to get away. With only my parents left in town, Wednesday was the first day in ages where there wasn’t much to do at home: no parties to plan, no organizing, no cleaning. Instead we opened many generous wedding presents, did some laundry and lounged about.

What better time, with Vic blissed out by the wedding, to get the fish?

Nana and Ori are small pot koi and we have great hope they stop hiding under the light and start swimming about sometime soon. Vic is delighted to feed them (and yes, he named them) and was quite distraught to see our cat perched on the lip of the pot.

Ah, I am so happy now that we have fish again!
