Fatties on Bikes!

11 Aug ’08

Keeping it real: I’m posting some bike bits every day this week.

Topping out recently at 262 pounds, Thank You Sweet Jesus & Wedding Stress Eating, I’ve been paying attention to others who are out there suffering like me.

Since I’ve gotten back on my bike regularly for the 4.5 mile commute to Harbor Island, I can say with all honesty: MY GOD THERE ARE A LOT OF FATSOS OUT ON THEIR BIKES.

That so rules!

I can’t say that the rise in gas prices has resulted in less cars on the road. It’s still Madhouse of Fast Moving Steel out there, but it does seem that there are more commuters of all shapes and abilities on the road. And lot of them are just like me, looking sweet in special-ordered Lycra and pushing it all around.

Walking to the store today, Vic gave comfort to one of our neighbors resting on her bike today half-way home from the four block trip to the mini-mart on our 2% grade we live on…and then later on his way home, heard her telling her pals in on her front porch, “Ya’ll be proud of me! I biked all the way to Parnell’s!” And yep, I say: RIGHT ON FATTIE! Keep it up! I’ll be right behind you pushing my bike up the hill too!

This image is from an interesting site, Confessions of a Bookplate Junkie. It’s exactly the kind of stuff I love to think about and so a delight to find and worth a look at http://bookplatejunkie.blogspot.com. Mr. Jaffe has been collecting bookplates for well over thirty years and am always interested in buying collections or exchanging duplicates with other collectors.

Sometimes we have to be forced to improve our health. In the process we discover many other joys.

More power to you.

hahaha! That’s awesome “all the way to Parnell’s” right there on the corner! But, wait. In Seattle, with these crazy hills, that’s a significant accomplishment.

I speak with shame as a ‘skinny’ who hasn’t even got off her lazy A to even go on a ride ALL SUMMER (head hung in shame).
