Down Low Glow

14 Jan ’08

Rock the Bike's Down Low Glow!

I don’t think I’m the target demographic for Rock the Bike’s Down Low Glow, but boy howdy, it makes my Tire Sparx look lame in comparison, and I loved those things.

Coming in a variety of colors (I’d have to say, I think I favor the hot pink!), it looks like just the thing to really increase side visibility. Unfortunately, due to all my water racks on my touring bike and that they appear to be designed for sunny climes like So-Cal and not the rainy Northwest, I don’t think I’ll be installing a set soon.

I am however, on the hunt for a new set of Sparx and despite my being snooty last year about putting them on my touring bike, it is now my only bike and I do need to be riding more, darkness be damned!

You might want to coat the tyresparx with epoxy or similar (I used Shoe Goo) as otherwise the salt from the road works its way in over time and kills the lights.

There was a guy at Critical Mass a couple of months ago who made his own Down Low Glow lights out of neon tubing and a battery pack and expoxied it all the be water proof. I think he said it set him back something like $40 all told. If you know any elec eng people I’m sure you could interest them into working on something like that for you 😉

Your ride is nice enough. 😉 I would take this off the bike racks if I see one. 😛
