Nia’s Tin Collages

A couple years ago, my friend Nia got a little obsessed with EBay. She’s got a great eye and being in her home is like being in a comfy magazine spread with a glass of wine and interesting objects filled with either mystery or stories everywhere you look.

Starting with tin types, she has been creating collages from old tins found in thrift stores and bought online that are obsessive, dangerous to make, and lovely.

What I like about these is that there is almost a tropical appeal to them in the way they are reconfigure the everyday into a colorful dream. I think this is, in part, due to the combination of the forced stillness of the people required in early photography and the confusion caused by doubling them with the designs and branding of the tins.
