I am happy to report that one of my photos was used in the cover story of this week’s Boston Globe.
The focus of Cate McQuaid’s article is in on found photos, including the current show at the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem. I’ll save my commentary on found photos for a few more weeks when I’ll be showing part of my collection as Lost Vacation at a space here in Seattle.
“When you know the people in the pictures, they’re keepsakes. When you don’t, they’re art. Gardner has shown his Grove Street photos to friends in Seattle.
“Here, people want to put them in their houses as art objects. They see the beauty of the photos,” he says. “In Brookline, people looked at them and asked, ‘Do you know the Sapersteins?'”
“Whichever Stone You Lift – Memorials from Grove Street’s Jewish Cemetery” is up for three more weeks at the Brookline Arts Center.
