Bunnies in a Foreign Land

20 Feb ’07

Vic and Mieko are ski-bunnies. Cypress Mountain, site of the 2010 Olypmic moguls and free-style, was their 5th weekend in a row skiing. RAD-i-cal!

There is little to complain about skiing at Cypress and plenty to love. It took 20 minutes to get there leaving our hotel in downtown Vancouver. While you can’t see the ocean from every trail, the fact that you can ski and look at islands in the distance is a wonder. The trail system is short but filled with lots of hilly variation. Cypress’ Hollyburn Lodge is how you dream every lodge is going to be and never is. Delicious home-cooked food, reasonable prices, a wood stove, and ski patrol hotties hanging about make it difficult to get back to the trails. I thought I was going to have to pull Vic and Mieko apart when the poutine showed up on the table. And yes, 20 minutes back down to Vancouver’s lively West End.

With two days of skiing, I think all of us were tactical about a few Vancouver favs. I managed a couple mornings of coffee in a cafe where everyone was reading newspaper and no one had a computer. Mieko went to Lush, while Vic and I looked for product at men’s only momentum, and together we ate at one of my favorite’s, Bin 941.

Winter ski holidays in Vancouver- do them before the Olympics and while Vancouver still has an “off” season.
