A New Hobby? Sport Fishing!

10 May ’07

Bay of Fundy Shot in Sport Fishing Magazine

A few days ago, the April edition of Sport Fishing Magazine showed up in my mailbox. I was most interested in the Doug Olander’s “Tournaments Gone Wild!” article because since I’ve taken up trout angling, I’m a fan of extreme fishing.

While most folks on the message boards are easily impressed with shark fishing by kayak, I personally thought the challenge of Hopewell’s Tidal Bore tournament in the Bay of Fundy looked more intense. According to the article, five men have perished trying to beat the world’s largest tides for a bit of bass and shad.

Of course, I’ve never been fishing for shark in a kayak, but I have been to the Bay of Fundy. As a matter of fact, it’s my picture in the article! The original is lacking the teams dragging their boats across the mile of sea bed at low tide. And yep, it was quite a lot of effort the editors put into the April Fools story. Well done! I particularly like the Nova Scotians winning the Cuisinart Model 833.

Ok, now that I’ve a picture in a glossy magazine, I’m waiting for National Geographic to call….Is that the phone I hear ringing?
