Mojave by Bike?

16 Mar ’06

I’ve been buying “product” again. Which means only one thing: Bike Touring!

With my new olive-based shaving cream, milky face cleanser and some a shampoo that came with a shower cap which reads “Vixen Hot Mama Bella Donna Goddess Botticelli Muse” and would make an excellent saddle cover, I am off for a seven day ride and nearly two week trip across the blasted deserts of Southern California.

Vic’s in the air now and I’d promised him that we’d not see any hills like we’d seen in Newfoundland. What’s he’s not quite grasping is 10 or 12 mile climbs at “freeway grade” and that our longest climb comes on the first day. He’s also never been to the desert.

Maybe we’ll make it to Joshua Tree. Maybe we’ll see burrowing owls at the Salton Sea, but the one thing that’s on my list that we’ll definitely get to is this: hot springs!
