Minus Car Project

7 Sep ’06

Way out in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Michael and his family are working on being car-free. He blogs insightfully on the Minus Car Project about the choice, and some of the hardships and benefits of reducing their dependence on a car.

He’s been blogging for about year, and decided to see what others had to say about their experience. It makes for an interesting read, as folks approach their car-free or car-reduction from a variety of points of view: improving their health, saving money, making a political statement, or just the plain fact that riding a bike is fun.

Minus Car T-shirt!

In exchange for sending him a short essay, he sent out a sweet Minus Car Project shirt. Tonight I’m wearing mine. It’s handsome and comfy and will proudly rotate with my Bike Nerd and less glamorous “Powered by Fat” bike logo t-shirts.

While the t-shirt for essay exchange has ended, there’s some really inspirational stories to read and bike bloggers to meet on his site. My essay is here, and one of my favorites on a kid getting on the spirit of minus being the new plus is here.

Check it out, because he pretty much rules.
