Ed Lisieski: House Painter

12 Oct ’05

MIT's newest acquisition

With the housing bubble all over the news, but the prices still going sky high, one of these little paintings on plywood might be as close to owning the rambler of my dreams as I’ll ever get. Ed and his wife been remodeling a ranch home over on Bainbridge Island: knocking out walls, adding skylights and big French doors. It’s sunny, open, and oddly un-ranch when you’re inside. In a word, lovely.

They’ve recently been thinking of buying a new home and have been busy looking at realty fliers, hence some of the inspiration for these. I’ve not actually seen Ed at work in his studio, but I used to sit next to him at work. He says inside these houses are pointy hats hanging on pegs in the foyers, and I would guess, J. Lo posters in the bedroom.

They opened today at the Treehouse Cafe on the far side of Bainbridge Island. Here’s a map, and if you ask me, it’s a perfect day out on your bike. The paintings are up till November 14.
