Comic Addiction

Dinosaur Comics by Ryan North

Never one to be able to keep the different species of dinosaurs straight, nor even sure what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur as opposed to just a very large lizard, I am a currently bit kooky for this comic strip by Ryan North.

I am also very sad-happy with Clumsy: A (graphic) Novel by Jeffrey Brown.

Freakily enough… I know a guy who is good friends with Ryan North who has a web comic called A Softer World that you’d probably enjoy. Joey even has an account on my server. One of those spooky small world things!

He’s also written and self-published a book called Lockpick Pornography that I think you’d probably like (and I’m not even getting commission!)

Oh that is Spooky! Are they Canadian too?

Yep, they’re both Canadian. Joey’s got a McJob at certain large record chain store in town so I went down stalking him at the weekend… He was directing all the people in the classical section to a new independent classical music store because he doesn’t approve of their attitude to competitors. And he was selling his book to customers on the floor. Somehow I don’t think he’s really cut out for the retail experience 🙂

God, I love Canadians! There is hope where there was so little before.

That Soft World stuff is pretty solid. I am thinking Joey must be a hottie. I don’t know why. The demo chapters for Lockpick not my cup of tea…

I miss having comic book artists hanging around. I’ve been thinking this could make a fun “bike tour”, but since I am not in New York, I am not sure how. It is something I am working on.

I guess I am normally fairly staid in my comics: Here’s the Drawn and Quarterly home page by Chris Ware and linking to Jason Lutes, who’s drawings are so good, that I actually kind of had a crush/imaginary love affair on one of his characters…

I really wish I was better at drawing.

Here is one more thing that is not comics, but kind of is, my friend’s Pam’s work, Die Wunder der Natur, which is heading into a strange narrative when they hang together. I think it is something she is exploring and I like it.

That’s been a favorite of mine for a while. I pulled out the bike related ones.

I like it because it’s FRIGGIN INTENSE!

Maybe I first saw it at your site, Todd. I can’t recall and I wish I could credit someone with getting through my static. I finally grabbed the RSS and started paying attention about a month ago, at first thinking it cute derrivative of Get Your War On (brilliant), but I like how this one is odder, and has a bit of hard soul to it, instead of endless bitterness.

Plus, I do like Dinasaurs stomping stuff, over and over and over.

Joey stars in his own comic here – although he has a bit more facial hair now. His eyes don’t usually look so… psychotic, either.
