A Dry Weekend In New England

6 Nov ’05

Bait fishing at Horn Pond

This fall has been exceptionally wet in New England. Coupled with the decreasing daylight and dropping temperatures, I’ve been struggling to get on the bike just for fun.

Yesterday, however, was unseasonably warm and brightened up nicely. A classic day for cycling if ever there was one. Vic and I took an urban route through Arlington to Woburn to have lunch and see a friend’s new house. My favorite stretch was the short bike trail and park around Horn Pond between Winchester and Woburn center.

I was out riding yesterday, too. In Arlington, but then I went west. So did you come back through the Fells? It’s a shame all the leaves are gone already.

We missed the Fells. I was thinking I need to finally stop sometime, lock up the bike and go for a long walk there. I’ll have to find time to do that next week

I take my pictures with a Sony DSC-707 5 mega pixel camera. It is several year old, though I just bought it used off a friend before I went to Newfoundland. I like it so much more than my mini (which I then passed on to a friend with out a digital camera) for picture quality, though I greatly miss just slipping it into my pocket and taking snap shots.

All the pictures on this blog since May were taken with it. I do color correct, crop and what have you in Photoshop.

There is no mistaking that I am with my camera, and often when I am biking, I am carrying my handlebar bag just to carry this around. I have started walking around with it though just to take pictures.

That sudoku is very evil and incredibly addictive. I think I’ll go do one before I start work!

The entire road on the west side of Horn Pond is permanently closed to car traffic. It’s a great place to ride — I hope you found it.

Another one of my favorite roads in this area is Mystic Valley Parkway, from West Medford to downtown Winchester.

This photo is from the short closed road on the west side of Horn Pond. Yep, it was lovely.
