Shazam and Abracadabra!

18 Nov ’04

Found Scrap in Boston

When I got a bit of money in Boston, I went out and bought the new Beastie Boys record. I don’t normally listen to rap, but I figured a little Jewish rap would help me get my East Coast Groove on. Victor hates it about as much as I hate John Williams, but I say “Shazam! and Abracadabra!”

Going to New York is a snap from Boston. You merely get on the subway, go to the South Station and hop on a Peter Pan bus. There is no planning involved, except for making sure Shannon and Pablo are accepting guests.

This was our second time down to see them. Shannon and Pablo are recent Seattle transplants and working hard to make it work in the City. They live out in Brooklyn in a brownstone apartment on a street that looks like the Brooklyn in any movie you see that involves nostalgia.

I can’t say we have done much of anything special on either trip: just walking around the city. But I never really want to leave. Obviously, it is sweet to see S&P and they are extremely gracious. This time they took us out to see a little Argentinean section of Queens and Shannon had a cool gallery and chocolate store up her sleeve for us to check out. Next time, maybe I’ll even have some money for shopping. Hopefully, we’ll get to hook up with Vic’s friends again and supposedly eat better Thai food than Seattle. Here’s the real deal: I just can’t get over that you can go there with no planning whatsoever, that you could go for the day. It’s that close.

Also, I am not missing the next Beastie Boys tour.
