Is a horrible song. It is truly so bad and now it is stuck in my head due to the crazy earnestness in which the German Youth of Today were dancing and singing along to it at the Schwimmbad Disco.
After a few beers however, I too was enveloped in the atmosphere (think East European Firetrap) and danced like crazy to “I am so Excited”, “Surfin’ USA” and thank god, “99 Luftballoons”.
As an aside, if you were ever concerned about the Pointer Sisters not being able to stay rich, everywhere I go, every single day, I hear one of their songs. It is the oddest thing. Truly. Odder even in my mind than listening to NEW Michael Jackson.
Leaving Heidelberg today, I guess. I got in a couple swims. I am kinda pooped and the weather is just gross. Everynight there is a thunderstorm, my bags are stinky, my tent often flooded. This is why I ended up going from Mannheim, where I thought I would surely get sucked into a tornado or struck with lightening as my bike fell on my tent as I quivered inside, to Heidelberg, only 15 miles away for a night in a youth hostel. Of course, after taking a night indoors to get out of thunderstorms and do laundry, it did not rain! Ssheessshhhh…
There is a Starbucks here and several store fronts have signs in Japanese. It is that kind of tourist town, which also implies why I found an Internet cafe.
Anyhow, I am getting used to Germany. Germany is not getting used to me.
Onward to Austria!
